The Eat-Cute: Cuckoo for Cocoa...Smoothies

My friend Emily brought me a present of Cocoa mix from her trip to the Biltmore in Asheville, NC. Thanks are in order. I don't have a huge sweet tooth, but I do recognize the value of a good hot chocolate mix. The best mix is a subject of great debate within the Hot Chocolate Community. Certain people swear by Swiss Miss, others go for Land of Lakes or a gourmet brand of their choosing (to say nothing of the Water vs. Milk schools of thought, of which I am a strict Milk adherent).

Dear readers, I can settle this debate over the best hot chocolate mix. You need none other than (let me look at this label): The Famous Pacific Dessert Company's Gourmet Hot Cocoa (subtitle: America's Irresistible Indulgence!).

This stuff is creamy, full of chocolate flavor, and not a hint of grainy thinness. I am sure you are wondering, and I must admit I was, too, upon receiving this gift, "now what am I going to do with HOT cocoa in May?" Wait. Not only are there directions on the box for how to make their hot cocoa, but the fine folks at TFPDC were thoughtful enough to include a recipe for chocolate smoothies on the side of the box. Maybe I am late to the Chocolate Smoothies party (fashionably late, I hope), but it really never occurred to me before to put hot cocoa mix in cold icy smoothies. I had a smoothie phase around 2006, when I put just about everything sold in the produce, dairy, and frozen aisle into some sort of smoothie. This had something to do with me being a college student and never having time for breakfast. Now, though, I have been off the Blender for some time and thought that there was no better re-entry to cold breakfast drinks than chocolate mix.

The recipe goes as follows: milk, yogurt, cocoa mix, and ice. My other secret ingredient to smoothies is Ground Flaxseed, because it lends nuttiness and fiber, and as I'm sure you are well aware if you have been following this blog for any length of time, I am a big proponent of nuttiness (you may be less aware of my fondness for fiber).

Nom nom!

This looks super yummy! I wish I could enjoy a cup of cocoa smoothie RIGHT NOW! Also, I am in total agreement that using milk in hot chocolate is best. Water? Yuck. Milk all the way.
